Steve Kennedy (Bloomington, Ill.) is still considered one of the best hitters in Marian baseball history playing two seasons for the Sabres in 1988 and 1989. Kennedy is still referred to as one of the best hitters in Sabre baseball history posting the two-highest single-season batting averages in program history finishing with a .490 career average. In the 1988 season, Kennedy hit .495 on the season as the Sabres won an LMC championship earning him LMC Player of the Year honors and NAIA All-District recognition as a third baseman. He then shifted to the outfield for the 1989 season but repeated as the LMC Player of the Year and once again earned NAIA All-District honors after hitting .486 on the year. The Sabres went on to win another LMC championship and won the conference tournament to earn a spot in the NAIA district playoffs. Kennedy also ranks second in program history for slugging percentage at .713.
