Dr. Bruce Prall pioneered athletics at Marian, establishing women’s basketball as the school’s first varsity sponsored sport back in 1970, and thus also becoming the school’s first athletic director. He coached the women’s team for five seasons before switching over to the men’s basketball program for a short time when the school became co-ed in the early 70’s.
He hired some of Marian’s most successful coaches, including 2012 inductee, Brian Gillogly, who started the baseball program in 1988.
Prall served as the university’s faculty athletic representative, as well as a chemistry professor, through the 2012-13 academic year when he decided to retire after 41 years at Marian.
