#4 - Women's Tennis Returns to NACC Touranment Semifinals
Marian women's tennis lived up to their high expectations entering the year as they were able to defeat Aurora in the first ever home tennis playoff match in Marian history and qualify for the NACC semifinals for a second consecutive year.
The Sabres dominated the Spartans sweeping all three doubles needing only a 6-0, 6-1 win from Alissa Heid at No. 3 singles and a 6-0, 6-0 sweep from Andrea Krahenbuhl at No. 4 singles to secure the win. The Sabres then faced off with top-seeded Concordia Wisconsin in the semifinals but were defeated 5-1 with the No. 2 doubles duo of Mackenzie Meyers and Heid winning 8-6. The Falcons then went on to defeat Edgewood for the NACC Tournament Championship before falling to John Carroll in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 2016-17 squad set a new program record for singles wins (69) and had the second most doubles wins in program history (34). The Sabres were especially strong at No. 3 and 4 singles where MU set a record at No. 3 singles with 13 wins and tied a program record at No. 4 with 10 wins.
Meg Hartzell and Mackenzie Meyers each earned All-NACC recognition for their singles play, while the duo of Celeste Degeneffe and Hartzell were also deemed All-NACC for doubles.
