#6 - Alex Manhardt Joins Exclusive Marian Men's Basketball Club
A strong final season in a Sabre uniform found Alex Manhardt of Marian University men's basketball reaching 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds to become only the eighth Sabre to reach both feats.
Manhardt wound up reaching 500 career rebounds first on Jan. 20 at home against Rockford and then became the 19th Sabre in program history to score 1,000 points in a career against Wisconsin Lutheran on Feb. 6. He closed out his career 17th all-time for scoring with 1,036 points and seventh in program history with 580 career rebounds. Manhardt also finished fifth in program history with 276 career free throws made in 402 attempts and sixth with 89 blocks.
As the lone senior on the squad in 2017-18, Manhardt was a leader posting one of the best seasons in his career finishing the year averaging a double-double with 14.6 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game. His rebound total was especially impressive with his 230 boards being the fifth-highest total for a single season in program history and also was tops in the conference. Manhardt also finished the year first in the NACC for double-doubles with 11 and ranked fifth in the conference with 31 total blocks. Manhardt went on to earn the program's first player of the week accolade since 2014 after registering a double-double against Concordia Chicago where he shot 70-percent from the field with 19 points and 10 boards.
This led Manhardt to a NACC First Team selection becoming only the third different Sabre to earn a first-team nod since 2009-10.
