FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian University ACHA Division II team won their home opener and easily dispatched the Steele County Blades 9-4.
The Sabres jumped out on the Blades early with a power-play goal, which started the Sabre scoring frenzy. Marian scored five goals until the Blades scored late in the second period.
Six different Sabres recorded goals in the winning effort, two of which were short-handed. Collin Klein and Brandon Mills both collected two goals. Klein also recorded three assists on the night and Fredrik Radbjer collected 23 saves on the night.
Steele County would not go away quietly as they scored in the middle of the second period to cut into the deficit. The Blades would later score thirty seconds into the third period that caught Marian off guard; however, the Sabres would later retaliate with a goal later in the period sealing the Marian victory.
Marian will be back in action Friday, September 30 as they welcome Michigan Tech to Fond du Lac. Face-off is set for 6 p.m.
