BENSENVILLE, Ill. - Marian University ACHA hockey (6-0-0, 4-0-0 NCHL) remained undefeated defeating Robert Morris 4-1 and 3-0 in NCHL action.
The Sabres and Eagles were knotted at 1-1 for most of the opener, but Marian was able to score three goals in the third period to take the opener of the conference series 4-1. Kirill Proskurin scored in the first period with an assist from Sheamus Stoyle before a late goal from RMU tied the game. After a scoreless second period, Miles Giorgione, Daniel Roe, and Dan Liberko each scored a goal as the Sabres were able to pull away. Jarod Lang assisted the Proskurin goal, while Proskurin and Colin Wilson earned an assist on the Liberko goal.
The Marian offense outshot Robert Morris 50-28 for the game with Justin Davidson making 27 saves to earn the victory in goal.
The finale of the series was similar, but Davidson stood on his head making 28 saves to earn his first shutout of the year and lead Marian to a 3-0 victory. Tyren Boots opened the scoring in the first period with assists to Anthony Keeper and Connor Martin. Proskurin then earned his third point of the weekend with a second-period goal, assisted by Nikita Sokova and Paul Kinder. Keeper then lit the lamp to close out the win with assists to Boots and Connor Rosaasen.
The Sabre penalty kill would fight off eight Eagle power plays in the finale to preserve the shutout.
Marian takes on St. Norbert in non-conference action for a home-and-home series taking on the Green Knights on the road Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. The Sabres host the Green Knights Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. from Blue Line.
