Slow start costs Sabre baseball in 10-2 loss to SJU

TUCSON, Ariz. - Marian University baseball (4-1, 0-0 NACC) fell to Saint John's (Minn.) 10-2 in their first loss of the 2019 season.

The Johnnies would score the first nine runs of the game with four in the first, two in the third, and three runs in the fifth inning.  The Marian bats would come alive in the sixth plating a pair of runs. Senior Jake Falish opened the inning with a single which was immediately followed by junior Nick Bastien being hit by a pitch.  Senior Matt Nordlund then drove in Falish with a double before junior Jake Arens hit into an RBI ground out two batters later.

Saint John's (Minn.) was able to add a run in the bottom half of the inning to set the final at 10-2.

Nordlund and sophomore Sean Meyer each had multi-hit games to lead the offense for the day.  Junior Josh Ditter had another strong performance out of the bullpen tossing 2.1 innings only allowing one hit.

Marian takes on Saint John's (Minn.) once again tomorrow, Monday, March 18 at 1 p.m. (CDT).
