RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Marian University baseball (9-6, 1-3 NACC) fell to Concordia Chicago in a NACC doubleheader by final scores of 10-6 and 11-3.
The opener of the twin bill was a slugfest to start with the two teams combining for 10 runs through three innings. An RBI single from senior Adrian Gonzalez opened the scoring for Marian in the second before a three-run homer from junior Jake Arens tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the third.
Concordia Chicago quickly broke the tie with two runs in the third and padded their lead with a four-run fifth inning. The Sabres rallied with sophomore Nick Dugandzic driving in a run in the sixth and fellow sophomore Jonah Landowski bringing in junior Nick Bastien in the eighth. This would be as close as Marian would manage, however, in the 10-6 defeat.
Dugandzic paced the offense going 3-for-5 with a run scored and one run driven in, while senior Brady Nehring was strong out of the bullpen going 4.0 innings allowing just two runs and striking out five.
The second game started similarly with both teams combining for 10 runs through four innings. Sophomore Sean Meyer opened the game with an RBI fielder's choice in the first inning before Gonzalez drove in a run with a single in the second. Landowski added an RBI single in the fourth.
The Cougars, however, had big frames in the third and eighth scoring four runs in each inning to pull away from Marian.
Marian is scheduled to take on Beloit tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, in a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader from Herr-Baker Field.
