Slow start costs Sabre men's basketball against Lakeland

FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's basketball (4-14, 2-11 NACC) couldn't overcome a rought first half falling to Lakeland by an 83-60 final.

The Sabres were able to use an 8-2 run early in the first half to take a 16-13 advantage with 9:54 left forcing a Lakeland timeout.  The Muskies then outscored the Sabres 35-9 for the remainder of the half to take a 48-25 advantage into the break.

Marian bounced back to score 35 points in the second half but couldn't find the stops on the defensive end leading to the defeat.

The offense for Marian went 25-59 (.424) from the field, while the Muskies shot 28-57 (.491) with 18 made free throws.  Lakeland also held a 19-5 advantage over Marian for points off turnovers.

Senior Tyrese Pinson finished with a team-high 14 points to go with five assists, while sophomore Tristan Van Ess netted 10 points.

Marian hits the road for Rockford Tuesday, January 29 for a 7 p.m. tip in NACC action.
