Marian men's hockey skates to tie at No. 6/8 UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Marian University men's hockey (6-3-2, 5-1-0 NCHA) rallied to earn a 3-3 tie at No. 6/8 UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds were able to take the first lead of the game but it wouldn't last long as Marian managed to score just nine seconds later.  Freshman Yuri Chernichko netted the Sabre goal, his fourth of the season, with assists to seniors Nick Monfils and Jake Howie to set the score at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

UW-Eau Claire would once again open the scoring in the second period with a pair of goals in the first 8:16 of the period to take a 3-1 advantage before Marian rallied.  Monfils opened the come back with his sixth goal of the season, assist to Howie, which came just 1:07 after the second Blugold goal.

Junior Conner Blanck then drew the Sabres even with his fourth goal of the year at the 11:32 mark of the third period, assists to freshman Blaine Canton and junior Mitchell Baumann

The Sabres outshot the Blugolds 9-8 in the third period and then outshot them 5-4 in overtime but neither team was unable to light the lamp.

UW-Eau Claire finished with a slim 34-29 advantage in shots with Blanck pacing the Sabres with four shots.  In total, 15 different Marian skaters recorded a shot on goal.  Senior Jack Romanuik made 14 saves on 17 shots in the start, while junior Hunter Vorva (5-2-2) relieved him stopping all 17 shots he faced to earn the tie.

Marian returns to NCHA action at home hosting Concordia Wisconsin Wednesday, December 12 at 8 p.m. from Blue Line Family Ice Center.
