GENEVA, Ill. - In a defensive battle, Marian University men's hockey (9-6-3, 7-3-1 NCHA) defeated Aurora 1-0 in NCHA action.

The only goal the Sabres would need came at the 10:54 mark of the opening period when junior Conner Blanck scored his fifth goal of the season.  Freshman Troy Ring and fellow junior Clay Cross each earned an assist on the goal as Blanck earned a point in his third consecutive game.

The goal stood up behind another strong performance from junior Hunter Vorva (8-5-3) who posted his second shutout of the season, seventh of his career, stopping all 24 shots he saw.  The performance was the sixth time this season Vorva has held a conference opponent to one or fewer goals.

Senior Jake Howie recorded six shots on goal to lead the Marian offense, while freshman Parker Colley added three shots.  The Sabres closed out the game with 20 shots on goal.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Sabre penalty kill held their opponent scoreless as the Spartans were turned away on all four power play opportunities.  The Marian power play was unable to convert a goal on their one opportunity.

Marian travels to Lake Forest tomorrow, Friday, January 18, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in NCHA action.
