Marian men's lacrosse dominates Carroll 18-4 in season opener

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Marian University men's lacrosse (1-0, 0-0 MLC) opened the 2019 season with a convincing 18-4 win at Carroll in non-conference action.

The Sabres opened the game scoring 14 of the first 15 goals of the game with four coming in the first quarter, seven in the second quarter, and third in the third quarter.  The Sabre defense also did their part in the first 45 minutes holding Carroll to 17 shots, seven of which were on goal.

The Pioneers began to mount a rally in the final quarter but the Sabres managed to outscore the Pioneers 4-3 to cruise to the win.

Freshman Johnny Estrada made nine saves to earn a victory in his first career start as Marian outshot the Pioneers 48-27.  The Sabres also dominated ground balls with a 52-25 advantage over Carroll.

Sophomore Garrett Houlihan led the offense with five goals and one assist for a six-point game, while freshman Finn Maloney had three goals and two helpers for five points.  Sophomore Nick Klotz along with freshmen Colt Robertson and Denton Jackson each had a multi-goal game.

Defensively, sophomore Connor Houlihan had four caused turnovers and fellow sophomore Tommy Gerlach had two caused turnovers to go with seven ground balls.

Marian is scheduled to host Dubuque Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. from Smith Field.
