Sabres close out season with sweep of Adrian


FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's volleyball (9-17, 6-13 MCVL) closed out the 2017 season sweeping Adrian with set finals of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22.

Marian opened the match strong hitting .444 with 14 kills to only two errors.  After the two teams battled to an 11-11 tie the Sabres closed out the set with a 14-4 run to earn the win.  A pair of service aces from sophomore Ben Walter clinched the set for MU.

The Sabres had their best offensive performance in the second set hitting .480 with 16 kills to only four errors.  Adrian hung around and only trailed 20-17 before Marian once again closed out the set strong scoring five of the final six points.

In the third set, Marian used a 7-1 run to open up a 19-11 lead before Adrian battled back to cut the deficit to 22-19.  The Sabres were able to stave off the come back with a kill from sophomore Jon Sattersten ending the match in straight sets.

The MU service was especially strong in the match forcing several poor service receptions that resulted in Marian kills.

Junior Aaron Wendels led the offense with a match-high 14 kills, while sophomore Cullen Liberski had 11 digs in the Sabre back row.
