Marian men's volleyball tabbed fourth in NACC preseason poll

MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's volleyball was picked to finish fourth in the NACC according to conference preseason poll, as voted on by the head coaches and sports information directors of the league.

Defending champion and 2018 NCAA Division III semifinalist Dominican University was picked to win the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's volleyball championship according to the preseason poll.  Dominican finished 26-8 last season, splitting the inaugural NACC title with Benedictine before capturing the first league tournament crown and advancing to the NCAA semifinals.

The Stars received 10 of 18 first-place votes and 154 points in the preseason poll. The Eagles (21-6, 10-2 NACC a year ago) rank a close second with 150 points and the remaining eight first-place votes, while MSOE ranks third with 124 points.  Marian University sits fourth with 92 points, while Aurora University and Lakeland University are tied for fifth with 86 points apiece.

NACC newcomer Illinois Institute of Technology was seventh with 56 points, followed by Concordia University Wisconsin's 40 points and Concordia University Chicago's 22.

The top six teams in the final NACC standings at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the NACC Men's Volleyball Tournament with the tournament champion receiving the NACC's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship. 

Marian opens the 2019 season at the Slug Slam in Santa Cruz, Calif.  The Sabres will take on No. 5 SUNY New Paltz and No. 9 UC Santa Cruz Saturday, January 12 to open the tournament, and will play No. 8 Cal Lutheran along with North Central (Ill.) the following day, Sunday, January 13.
