Sabre rally falls short against Aurora

MILWAUKEE - Marian University softball (27-16, 13-9 NACC) rallied in the seventh inning but had their season ended with a 2-1 loss to Aurora.

The Spartans pushed across a run in the top of the first inning but from there the game was a pitching duel.  The Sabres would put a runner in scoring position in three of the first six innings but couldn't push across a run stranding a total of 11 runners on the bases.

Needing a run in the seventh, the Marian offense managed to push across a run and extend the game.  Freshman Ally Fox opened the inning with a single through the left side before being sacrificed over to second by sophomore Lindsey Strainis.  Senior Nicole LaBeck wasted no time and drove in Fox with a single to tie the game at 1-1.  LaBeck would advance to second on the throw to the plate but Marian would be unable to get her in to take the lead.

In the bottom half of the seventh Aurora would only need three batters for the walk-off win.

Fox and LaBeck each had multi-hit games in the loss with senior Sara Terrian drawing two intentional walks.  Freshman Paige Rauhut (12-7) was dominant in the circle once again scattering nine hits over 6.1 innings striking out three Spartans.

Marian closes the 2017 season with the third most wins in program history.
