MARQUETTE, Mich. - Marian University softball had a trio of student-athletes named to the Finlandia Dome Classic all-tournament team after the Sabres went 4-0 to open the season.
Senior Lindsey Strainis (Green Bay, Wis.) hit .357 at the tournament with a .400 on base percentage and tied for a team lead with an .857 slugging percentage. Strainis had five extra-base hits, three doubles, and two triples while driving in two runs. She also went on to score five runs over the weekend and had a pair of games where she had multiple extra-base hits. Defensively, Strainis did not commit an error with 11 total chances; four putouts and seven assists.
Junior Ally Fox (Greenville, Wis.) finished with double-digit hits to record a .714 batting average with a .750 on base percentage. She had at least two hits in all four games including a pair of three-hit games. Fox drove in a pair of runs to go with six runs scored herself, three of which came in the win over Northland. On the base paths, Fox stole three bases over the weekend and was caught only once. At second base she was perfect on all 15 of her chances with 12 putouts and three assists.
Sophomore Peyton Loesch (Bolingbrook, Ill.) paced the Marian offense with a team-high six runs driven in for the tournament while hitting .500 with an .857 slugging percentage. Loesch had five doubles on the weekend to go with five runs scored. She went on to have three multi-hit games, including a three-hit game against UW-Superior and recorded at least one run batted in for each game. Against Finlandia, she drove in three runs to go with two doubles and two runs scored. In the circle, she earned the victory over St. Scholastica with a one-hit inning in relief.
Marian opens The Spring Games from Clermont, Fla. Saturday, March 16 taking on Amherst at 1 p.m. (CST) and Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
