Sabre women's basketball unable to overcome slow start

Rachel Serchen looks for a pass.

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (0-12, 0-7 NACC) fell to Benedictine in NACC action to open the second half of the season by a final of 83-40.

The Eagle defense kept the Marian offense in check in the opening half as Benedictine held the Sabres to only 12 points after 20 minutes of action.  The Sabres would pick things up in the third quarter where they were able to score 17 points to keep their deficit manageable, but the Eagles were able to pull away in the final quarter and cruise to the win.

Senior Rachel Serchen led the way for Marian finishing in double-figures with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Freshman Paris Harris had a strong game pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds with three assists.

Marian opens a three-game road trip Wednesday, January 2 at Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7 p.m. tip.
