Marian women's hockey ties with Saint Mary's (Minn.)

Abbey Dokken looks up with the puck.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (3-9-3, 2-4-2 NCHA) skated to a 1-1 tie against Saint Mary's (Minn.) after falling to the Cardinals 4-0 to open the season.

The two teams battled to a defensive stalemate in the opening pair of periods with the Cardinals taking a 24-12 advantage in shots heading into the final period.  The final period saw Saint Mary's (Minn.) once again lead in shots but the Sabres were able to break the tie at the 6:52 mark when senior Abbey Dokken lit the lamp for the third time this season.  The Cardinals responded, however, with an equalizer at the 14:03 mark to send the game into an extra period.

Marian would dominate the extra period sending four shots on goal while holding the Cardinals to no shots, but neither team would be able to net the game-winner.

Senior Lindsey Strainis was strong in net once again for the Sabres making 37 saves, while junior Morgan Bolin had a team-high five shots.

Marian takes a week off before returning to NCHA action at Northland January 18 and 19.  The opener of the series is set for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
