Sabre women's soccer drops season opener at Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Marian University women's soccer (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) netted a pair of goals but saw their season opener end in defeat falling to Viterbo 3-2.

The top point scorer from a season ago, senior Reilly Louko, opened the scoring for the Sabres on the season when she found the back of the net in the final two minutes of the first half.  Junior Alyssa Jones would earn the start in goal for the Sabres making seven saves on nine shots in the opening half.  

Freshman Olivia Meerdink cut a two-goal deficit in half in the 54th minute with her first-career goal, a header from senior Karissa Preston.  Fellow senior Danielle Deltgen took over in goal for the second half and stopped five shots, while only allowing one goal. 

The Sabres managed a total of six shots on goal in the defeat with Louko and senior Alexis Peterson each recording a pair of shots on frame.

Marian closes out the weekend when the Sabres travel to Ripon Sunday, Sept. 2 for a noon start.
