FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (3-3-0, 0-0-0 NACC) scored four goals in the second half en route to a 5-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist from Smith Field.
The Sabres had three different student-athletes score their first goals of the season, opening with senior Carley Schmit finding the back of the net in the 42nd minute. Her initial shot would be blocked by a defender which put the goalie out of position to give her an open net to score the rebound. The goal capped off a first half that saw Marian outshoot the Sabercats 19-4 with 10 of those shots being on frame.
The second half saw a lot of the same domination from Marian as the Sabres only allowed two shots on goal and sent a total of 23 shots. Senior Reilly Louko scored her third goal of the season just 52-seconds into the second half when she snuck a shot inside the right post from the top of the box. Sophomore Charity Hertel then scored her first goal of the year in the 69th minute from a similar spot that went into the upper-right of the goal.
Freshman Olivia Meerdink continued to score as she notched her fifth goal of the year in the 76th minute with a shot that went inside the right post from the middle of the box. The final goal would come from sophomore Shannon Coughlin, her first of the season, inside the final five minutes of the game after a shot from Hertel hit the post and gave her an empty net on the rebound.
While Marian dominated the possession most of the game, senior Danielle Deltgen (3-2-0) stopped all five shots she faced for her fifth-career shutout. Coughlin, Meerdink, and Louko each had four shots on goal to pace an offense that sent a total of 22 shots on frame in the victory.
Marian closes out non-conference play taking on Knox Sunday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. from Smith Field.
