Marian women's soccer stymied after fast start

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (3-5-0, 0-1-0 NACC) netted the first goal of the game but Concordia Wisconsin stormed back to defeat the Sabres 4-1. 

The first 20 minutes of action was all Sabres as Marian was able to produce quality chance after quality chance.  Sophomore Alicia Balken was able to open the scoring in the 16th minute when she created a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie and buried her third goal of the year from the left part of the box.

The Falcons tied the game approximately 16 minutes later before scoring a pair of goals that were only 4:33 apart to take a 3-1 lead into the half.  CUW added to their lead in the 65th minute to set the final at 4-1.

The Sabre defense rebounded in the second half only allowing 11 shots in the second stanza.  Marian closed out the match with 18 shots with seven of them coming from senior Alexis Peterson.  Freshman Olivia Meerdink and Balken each added four shots, two of which were on goal.

Senior Danielle Deltgen (3-4-0) took the defeat in goal making nine saves with six of her stops coming in the first half.

Marian will next travel to Dominican Saturday, Sept. 22 for a noon start in NACC play.
