Sabres downed by Spartans in NACC finale

AURORA, Ill. - Marian University women's volleyball (6-21, 4-7 NACC) fell to Aurora University in straight sets in their NACC finale with set scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.

The first two sets saw the Spartans use late rallies at the end of the set to take a 2-0 lead.  The Sabres trailed in the opener 18-16 before AU scored six consecutive points to take a commanding lead and Marian hung tight in the second set to a 19-18 deficit before Aurora closed out the set with a 6-2 run.

The third set saw the Spartans use another extended run as AU led 11-9 but were able to build a large lead using a 9-2 run.

Sophomore Alexandra Meidl hit .273 in the match with a match-high 10 kills to lead the Sabre offense.  Freshman Andrea Kubicek had a team-high 10 digs in the back row, while junior Amber Baker assisted on 16 Sabre kills with two service aces and five digs.

Marian closes out the season on the road traveling to Ripon Friday, Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
