Sabre women's volleyball earns road win at Alverno

MILWAUKEE - Marian University women's volleyball (7-8, 3-3 NACC) returned to the win column defeating Alverno in four sets with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 24-26, and 25-22 in NACC action.

The Sabres dominated the opening pair of sets with the defense controlling things in the first set and the offense taking over in the second set.  Alverno would be held to a -.033 hitting percentage in the opening set, while the Marian offense hit .409 in the second set.

Marian had 14 attacks in the third set, their most in a single set for the night, but the Inferno were able to hold off a late set point opportunity to rally and force a fourth set.  The Sabres trailed late in the fourth set by a 21-19 margin before Marian was able to close out the match with a 6-1 run.

Junior Sara Komosa had a double-double for the Sabres with 10 kills and 13 digs, while senior Alexandra Meidl paced the offense with 14 kills off of a .310 hitting percentage.  Meidl also went on to serve up seven aces in the victory.

Also on the defensive side, junior Jenna Skroski recorded a match-high 15 digs with freshman Brooklyn Taylor also had double-digit digs with 12.  Junior Kaitlyn Kelley continued to be a force at the net with a pair of solo blocks and seven kills off of a .467 hitting percentage.

Marian returns home to take on Dominican Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. from Sadoff Gym.
