Marian softball vs. CUW (April 24, 2024)

#1 • Erin Cowe • Sophomore

Sophomore Erin Cowe made an immediate impact for the Sabres last season earning an all-conference selection.  Cowe was second on the team with her 49 hits, 28 runs, and .366 batting average for the season.  She started in all 42 games she appeared in and was held without a hit in only 10 games.  Cowe had multiple hits in 16 games with three three-hit performances.  She also ended the year on an eight-game hitting streak where she had multiple hits in six of those games.  In the MSOE sweep, Cowe was 5-for-7 (.714) at the dish and scored three runs.

#26 • Cailie Pliner • Graduate Student

Graduate student Cailie Pliner had the best season of her career after going 7-11 with a 3.37 earned run average over 106.0 innings of work, all career marks.  Struck out 31 hitters and had an opponent batting average of just .297.  Earned a NACC Pitcher of the Week award after earning a victory in St. Norbert where she allowed two runs over 5.0 innings of work.  Her shutout came against Wisconsin Lutheran where she allowed just one hit over 5.0 innings of work.  Had a 2.74 earned run average over 15.1 innings at the NACC Tournament to earn a spot on the All-NACC Tournament Team.

#35 • Savanna Knuth • Sophomore

Sophomore Savanna Knuth was a versatile weapon for the Sabres last season appearing in 42 games with 37 starts between the infield and the circle.  Hit .309 on the season recording 29 hits with 11 runs driven in and 20 runs scored.  Had a slugging percentage of .468 after hitting 12 doubles and one home run, which came against MSOE in the NACC Tournament.  Posted eight multi-hit efforts including a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored and a run driven in against Heidelberg.  In the circle, had a 4.44 earned run average over 34.2 innings with a 2-1 record and two saves.  Threw 4.0 scoreless innings at Lakeland allowing only four hits but did not factor in the decision.

• Coached the first All-American in program history, she was also a finalist for the National Player of the Year
• Six NACC Tournament appearances
• Reached the NACC Tournament Championship round in 2019
• Also served as an assistant coach for the men's basketball program

Prior to Marian
• Served as head coach at North Fond du Lac from 1997-2002
• Led the Orioles to two regional titles and an appearance in the sectional finals in 1999

The softball field at Smith Fields has been the home of the Sabres since the spring of 2004. The dimensions of the field are 200 feet down the left and right field lines and 220 feet to center field. Smith Fields has two dugouts which are covered and have protective fencing along the face. 

Other amenities at Smith Fields are a brand new lighting system, press box, a team room, bullpens down each line, an electronic scoreboard, and a concession stand. Bleacher seating is available behind home plate and down the two base lines.
