Sabre Scratch - Week 12 Recap

As the temperatures cool down, the winter sports are starting to heat up! Here is everything you missed from Week 12 of the Marian Athletics calendar!

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Marian had the week off and returns to action in the Dells against Augsburg!

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

It was a tough weekend of competition for Marian at the UChicago Midway Classic.  The Sabres were defeated by Chicago and Tufts with freshman Ava Kreger scoring 14 points against Tufts.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Senior Harley Bartels earned All-Conference recognition for the second straight season earning a spot on the Second Team!

NCAA MEN'S HOCKEY

The grinding start of the season as Marian faced a third-straight nationally-ranked opponent.  Marian was swept by No. 4/4 St.Norbert but did have a strong special-teams game in the finale at home.

WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY

Three weeks in to the season, and Marian women's ice hockey has made history twice now! After falling to No. 6/6 SNC in the opener at home, Marian earned its first victory over a nationally-ranked team in the finale! The Sabres used goals from juniors Olivia Church-Sowinski and Ella Spies and a 37-save performance from sophomore Jillian Traver to pull off the upset.

The Mequondulac Cup is staying in Fond du Lac! No. 12 Marian fell to No. 8 CUW 3-2 in the opener despite holding a 2-1 lead going into the third period.  The Sabres bounced back in game two at home earning a 6-5 victory to force a shootout for the cup.  Jackson Powers was able to stop all three shots he saw to keep the rivalry trophy.

The Sabres narrowly fell to Loyola 5-4 in overtime to open a home-and-home series.  You can catch the recap of the series at sabreathletics.com when we have the full box scores.

WOMEN'S BOWLING

It was a strong weekend at two different locations for Marian! The Sabres were able to finish eighth at the Bearcat Invite and second at the UWO Invite.  Marian defeated three different nationally-ranked teams at the Bearcat Invite and Delanie Vogt finished third as an individual!

MEN'S BOWLING

The Sabres had the weekend off and return to action at a competitive National Collegiate Classic.
