SAINT CHARLES, Mo. - The regionally-ranked No. 1 Marian ACHA hockey team (18-0-0, 10-0-0 NCHL) swept No. 4 Lindenwood with a pair of 2-1 victories to keep their perfect season alive.
In the opener, Marian would be outshot 43-23 but Justin Davidson continued his dominating season stopping 42 shots only allowing one first period goal. Tyren Boots was able to light the lamp in the first period for the Sabres to equalize the Lion goal with an assist to Jarod Lang. Then in the second period, Tanner Duffney would score the game-winner with an assist to Connor Rosaasen.
The Sabre penalty kill had a strong game in the series opener holding the Lions scoreless on four power play opportunities.
The finale was a more even game throughout with the Sabres scoring a third period goal to secure the sweep. After a scoreless first period, each team would light the lamp in the second period with the goals being separated by only 18 seconds. Boots once again opened the scoring for the Sabres, assists to Daniel Roe and Brandon Mills. Then in the final period, Connor Martin was able to find the back of the net, assist to Bryton Tomko, to put the Sabres ahead for good.
Davidson closed out his weekend with 45 saves as the Sabres were outshot in the game by a 46-34 margin.
The Marian penalty kill once again had a strong performance stopping all seven Lion power plays.
Marian is set for another big non-conference clash when the Sabres host No. 2 Grand Valley State Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 from Blue Line. The opener of the series is set for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop and the finale with start at 3:30 p.m.
