MEQUON, Wis. – The Marian men's basketball team travels to Concordia Wisconsin for a pivotal Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest Wednesday evening.
What's on the line?
A win would go a long way for the Sabres' postseason aspirations. With six games remaining in the regular season MU sits at 6-8 in the NACC and stand in seventh place. Lakeland and Rockford are tied for sixth place, but the Sabres hold the tie-breaker over LC due to their regular-season series sweep. The top six teams qualify for the NACC tournament.
Manhardt providing spark
Sophomore Alex Manhardt joined the active roster at midseason and has provided an instant impact. The 6-foot-6 West Bend, Wis. product averages 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. In MU's 87-84 road win at Dominican he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 boards for his first double-double of the season.
Backcourt of Roemer and Stecker reliable
Sophomore Reggie Roemer and senior counterpart Alex Stecker have proven to be a productive 1-2 punch in the Sabres backcourt. Roemer, a Madison, Wis. native averages 12.6 p.p.g. and shoots an effective 47.6 percent (90-of-189 on the season) from the field. Stecker, a four-year starter averages 11.3 p.p.g. and hands out an average of 3.6 assists per contest.
Oliver a sure and steady senior
Carvell Oliver is a reliable option that head coach Mark Boyle can go to on offense. He averages 8.6 p.p.g. and is dangerous behind the 3-poine line and connects on 43.1 percent of his shots, which ranks sixth in the NACC.
Scouting Concordia Wisconsin
CUW uses a lineup that has the potential to go 11 deep. The Falcons are led offensively by junior guard Eric Kittel. He averages 15.4 points and four rebounds per game. CUW will also look to Keith Kahlfeldt (11.9 p.p.g.) and Taron Edwards (10.2 p.p.g.).
