RIVER FOREST, Ill.  – The Marian men's basketball team travels to Concordia Chicago for a pivotal Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest Saturday afternoon.

What's on the line?

A win would go a long way for the Sabres' postseason aspirations. With five games remaining in the regular season MU sits at 6-9 in the NACC and stand in eighth place. Currently Lakeland holds the sixth spot and Rockford is in seventh place. However, the Sabres hold the tie-breaker over LC due to their regular-season series sweep. The top six teams qualify for the NACC tournament and Benedictine clinched a berth last week.

Manhardt providing spark

Sophomore Alex Manhardt joined the active roster at midseason and has provided an instant impact. The 6-foot-6 West Bend, Wis. product averages 16.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest. In MU's 87-84 road win at Dominican he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 boards for his first double-double of the season.

Backcourt of Roemer and Stecker reliable

Sophomore Reggie Roemer and senior counterpart Alex Stecker have proven to be a productive 1-2 punch in the Sabres backcourt. Roemer, a Madison, Wis. native averages 12.1 p.p.g. and shoots an effective 47.2 percent from the floor. Stecker, a four-year starter averages 11.5 p.p.g. and hands out an average of 3.6 assists per contest.

Oliver a sure and steady senior

Carvell Oliver is a reliable option that head coach Mark Boyle can go to on offense. He averages 8.2 p.p.g. and is dangerous behind the 3-poine line and connects on 41.7 percent of his shots, which ranks eighth in the NACC.

Scouting Concordia Chicago

The Cougars, just like the Sabres are in need of a win. CUC sits behind MU at ninth in the conference standings, however, are 4-11 in conference play. A loss to the Sabres would be devastating. The Cougars are led by a pair of guards that average in double figures. Mitch Pelissier averages 16.4 p.p.g. and Mike Walmer is right behind him at 15.4 p.p.g.
