Edgewood: 2-19, 2-14 NACC
Marian: 10-11, 7-9 NACC
FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Sadoff Gymnasium and will do battle with Edgewood in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference bout.
What's on the line?
A win would go a long way for the Sabres' postseason aspirations. With four games remaining in the regular season MU sits at 7-9 in the NACC and stand in eighth place. However, the Sabres are only one game out of sixth place. The top six teams qualify for the NACC tournament and Benedictine and Aurora have punched their tickets.
Manhardt providing spark
Sophomore Alex Manhardt joined the active roster at midseason and has provided an instant impact. The 6-foot-6 West Bend, Wis. product averages 16.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest, both of which are team highs. In MU's 91-66 road win at CUC he scored 22 points and grabbed 13 boards for his second double-double of the season. His 13 rebounds was also a career best.
Backcourt of Roemer and Stecker reliable
Sophomore Reggie Roemer and senior counterpart Alex Stecker have proven to be a productive 1-2 punch in the Sabres' backcourt. Roemer, a Madison, Wis. native averages 11.9 p.p.g. and shoots an effective 47.2 percent from the floor. Stecker, a four-year starter averages 11.0 p.p.g. and hands out an average of 3.6 assists per contest.
Oliver a sure and steady senior
Carvell Oliver is a reliable option that head coach Mark Boyle can go to on offense. He averages 8.2 p.p.g. and is dangerous behind the 3-poine line and connects on 42.2 percent of his shots, which ranks eighth in the NACC.
The Eagles are led by a trio of juniors. Adam Freitag averages a team-high 10.6 points per game. Trevor Ampe helps out with 9.0 p.p.g. and Spencer Barnes averages 8.3 p.p.g. The Eagles have lost five in a row and are 2-14 in the conference and have been eliminated from postseason consideration.
