Sabres fall at No. 3 Adrian to open road series

Mike Baldwin strong between the pipes

ADRIAN, Mich. - Marian University men's hockey skated tough with the third best team in the nation but fell to Adrian by a 4-2 final.

The first period would only see one goal with Adrian taking the early lead, but that lead didn't last long when the second period started.

Fresh off an NCHA Player of the Week nod, sophomore Gianni Mangone was able to light the lamp for the second time this season with an assist to junior Curtis Lewington.  The Bulldogs would then score three unanswered goals in a span of 3:53 to take the commanding 4-1 lead.

Lewington then found the back of the night for a multi-point game with just over five minutes left in the second period.  Senior Derek Perl assisted the goal that gave MU life entering the third period.

Marian would play well in the third but was unable to score despite having an extra attacker for the final 54-seconds of the game.

The Sabres finished the game being outshot 30-26 but had a strong third period that saw MU outshoot Adrian 10-5.  The Marian power play also bounced back scoring a pair of goals with a man-advantage in four opportunities.

Senior Mike Baldwin (0-3-0) made 26 saves in the loss, while Mangone and sophomore Jake Howie each had five shots to pace the offense.

Marian closes out the series with Adrian tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 12, with a 2:05 p.m. (CDT) puck drop.
