ADRIAN, Mich. - Marian University men's hockey (1-5-0, 1-5-0 NCHA) fell to No. 3 Adrian by a final of 6-3 to close out their first stretch of conference games.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead with a pair of goals in the first period before sophomore Jake Howie lit the lamp for the first time this season on the power play to open the scoring for the second period. The Bulldogs looked ready to pull away with another pair of goals.
The Sabres continued to battle, however, and were able to cut the deficit back down to two with goals from sophomore Nick Monfils and junior Derek Thorogood. Four different Sabres would record assists on the two goals including seniors Brodie Jamieson, Mike Zajac, Scott Milnthorp and junior Hunter Stewart.
Adrian was able to once again answer the Sabre surge with a goal in the final minute of the second period which eventually proved to set the final at 6-3.
Adrian outshot the Sabres 51-21 for the game including a 36-14 shot difference in the final two periods combined. Junior Mike Gudmandson and senior Mike Baldwin split time in goal with Gudmandson making 23 saves and Baldwin stopping 22 shots.
Marian returns home Friday, Nov. 18 to host UW-Stevens Point for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
