DULUTH, Minn. - The Marian University men's hockey duo of senior Hunter Stewart and sophomore Hunter Vorva swept the NCHA weekly awards after leading the Sabres to the inaugural Superior Showdown title.
Stewart opened the second half of the season in a big way with a pair of multi-goal games as he went on to have a five-point weekend. The Calgary, Alta. opened the weekend with two goals against then-ranked No. 13/14 MSOE, one of which was the game-winner, before two goals and an assist against UW-Superior. One of his goals against the Yellow Jackets came on the power play.
Vorva continued his strong season at the Superior Showdown only allowing one goal in the pair of Sabre wins. Vorva opened the weekend with a 20-save blanking against the nationally-ranked Raiders, his third shutout of the campaign. He then stopped 12 shots against the host Yellow Jackets to close out the weekend with 32 saves and a .970 save percentage.
