Sabre men's soccer drops defensive battle at Benedictine

Israel Tovar gets ready to defend the ball.

LISLE, Ill. - In a defensive battle, Marian University men's soccer (9-8-0, 4-5-0 NACC) was defeated on the road by Benedictine 1-0.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the opening half with junior Ian Chacon (9-7-0) making four saves in net.  Benedictine held a 10-3 advantage in shots in the opening frame.  The Eagle offense continued their dominance in the second half outshooting MU 13-2.  Chacon and the Sabre defense continued to hold the Eagles scoreless, however, until a goal late in the 85th minute broke the scoreless tie.

Chacon finished the game with nine saves, while senior Alonso Fragoso was the only Sabre to record multiple shots in the loss.

Marian closes out the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 25 when the Sabres travel to Edgewood for a 7 p.m. kick off.
