ALBION, Mich. - Marian University men's soccer (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NACC) was able to force an extra period but Johnson & Wales netted a golden goal in overtime to defeat the Sabres 1-0.
In his first game of the season, senior Ian Chacon anchored the Sabre defense all game long making three saves in the first period, four in the second period, and another save in the extra period to total eight saves for the game. Marian recorded seven shots in the defeat but could only manage one shot on frame from freshman Juan Herrera. Herrera also led Marian with four shots in the game, while junior Chris Nelson, freshman Brandon Mancini, and sophomore Cade Klusendorf also recorded shots.
The neutral site game was the first in program history between Marian and Johnson & Wales.
Marian next hosts Ripon in their home opener Wednesday, Sept. 5 for a 5 p.m. kick off from Smith Field.
