Inferno pull away from Sabre women's basketball

Paris Harris shoots from deep.

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's basketball (0-9, 0-6 NACC) outscored Alverno in the second quarter but fell to the Inferno by a 76-50 final.

After Alverno took a 31-20 lead to open the game, the Sabres were able to show life using a 9-3 run to pull to within 34-29 with 3:39 left in the second quarter.  The Sabres eventually cut the deficit down to as little as three after a pair of free throws from freshman Paris Harris, but Alverno closed out the quarter with three unanswered points to extend their lead into halftime.

The second half was all Alverno, however, as the Sabre defense struggled to slow down the Inferno offense.

The Sabres outscored Alverno 34-30 in the paint and had 17 second chance points to the Inferno's five.  Harris led the offense with 14 points, while senior Molly Magnus chipped in 10 points.  On the boards, senior Rachel Serchen had a team-high eight rebounds, four of which were offensive, to go with nine points.

Marian travels to the Daytona Beach Shootout where the Sabres open against Nazareth Wednesday, December 19 at 2 p.m. (CST).
