ADRIAN, Mich. - Marian University women's hockey (3-6-0, 2-4-0 NCHA) hung tight with No. 4 Adrian for two periods but the Bulldogs were able to pull away in the final period and defeat the Sabres 5-2.
All the scoring for the first period would come in the final five minutes as freshman Ally Fox opened the scoring with a short-handed goal for her fifth of the year with an assist to senior Rian Lennon. The Bulldogs answered 54 seconds later to quickly tie the game and took the lead with only 18 seconds left in the period.
Adrian continued to use their momentum with a goal 1:08 into the second period but senior Emily Everson answered 1:03 later with her third goal of the season to put the score at 3-2.
Special teams scoring would comprise the third period as Adrian used a power play goal and an empty netter to set the final at 5-2.
The Bulldogs finished with a 42-22 shots advantage but the Sabre penalty kill held Adrian to only one goal on eight opportunities.
Marian closes out the season series with Adrian tomorrow, Saturday, December 3, with a 2 p.m. (CST) puck drop.
