Sabre women's hockey earns first win with shutout of Trine

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (1-6-0, 1-4-0) earned their first win of the season shutting out Trine by a 3-0 final.

Junior Lindsey Strainis (1-6-0) earned her sixth career shutout with 18 saves in the win, which also put her atop the Marian all-time records for shutouts.

Senior Paige Johnson opened the scoring with only two minutes remaining in the first period with the Sabres on the power play, assists to junior Nicole Niemi and sophomore Ally Fox.  Johnson then took a pass from junior Jill Schneider at the left circle and went near post from the right circle at the 2:42 mark to put Marian up 2-0.  The goals were number two and three for Johnson on the season.

Junior Natalie West then tallied her first goal as a Sabre at the 17:39 mark of the third period, assists to a pair of freshmen in Mary Clark and Jamie Henrickson, to close out the scoring.

Marian finished the game with a 35-18 advantage in shots with the Sabres outshooting the Thunder 15-6 in the final period.  Junior Alexis Peterson paced all skaters with a game-high seven shots, while junior Hailey Miller won 10 of her 13 faceoff opportunities and West went 10-2 in the faceoff circle.

Marian closes out their series against Trine at 2 p.m. from Blue Line tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18.
