Foresters take game one from Sabre women's hockey

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Marian University women's hockey (4-14-0, 3-8-0 NCHA) could only tally one goal falling to Lake Forest 4-1 in the series opener. 

Freshman Calle Bye would be the lone goal scorer for the Sabres as she notched her sixth goal of the year 30 seconds into the third period.  Senior Paige Johnson and junior Nicole Niemi each assisted the goal that was even-strength.

The Sabre cut into a 3-0 Lake Forest lead as the Foresters scored two goals in the first period, one on the power play, and a short-handed goal in the second period.  The Foresters were able to put the game away with their fourth goal coming at the 2:16 mark of the third period.

Bye also led the Sabres with three shots on goal, while junior Lindsey Strainis made 36 saves in net for the Sabres.  Strainis had a big third period where she stopped 16 Forester shots.

Marian closes out their series with Lake Forest tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. on the road.
