GENEVA, Ill. - Marian University women's hockey (5-15-0, 4-9-0 NCHA) snapped a five-game skid defeating Aurora 3-0 on the road.
The Sabre offense came alive in the win as they outshot the Spartans 50-14 and the power play converted two of their three opportunities. Marian recorded 22 shots in the first period and lit the lamp twice with sophomore Morgan Bolin netting her seventh goal of the season at the 5:07 mark. Senior Ellie Deans assisted the goal, which came on a Marian power play.
At the 13:57 mark, junior Sheila Blower scored her first goal of the season, with an assist to freshman Calle Bye, to put the Sabres up by a pair of goals. Deans then closed out the scoring in the second period with a power play tally at the 3:39 mark, her first of the season, with assists from Bolin and junior Hailey Miller.
All but two Sabre skaters recorded a shot in the win with Bolin pacing the Sabres with six shots on frame. Miller and senior Paige Johnson each had big games in the faceoff circle for Marian with Johnson going 13-2 and Miller going 15-1.
Junior Lindsey Strainis (4-14-0) stopped all 14 shots she faced with six of her saves coming in the opening period.
The Sabres and Spartans close out the series tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 4, at noon.
