ADRIAN, Mich. - Marian University women's hockey (7-19-0, 6-12-0 NCHA) was shutout by a 4-0 final to No. 5/6 to open the first round of the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs.

The Sabre offense got stronger as the game went on with 10 shots in the third period, but the power play unit struggled being held scoreless on six power play opportunities.  Senior Paige Johnson led the way for Marian with five of the 23 shots the Sabres put on goal.  Johnson also went 10-8 in the faceoff circle, while junior Hailey Miller won six of her 10 draws.

In goal, junior Lindsey Strainis made 39 saves marking the third consecutive game she has made 35 or more saves.  Strainis opened the game with 17 saves in the first period and helped lead the Marian penalty kill to only one goal on four opportunities.

Marian closes out the series with the Bulldogs tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24, at 5 p.m. (CST).  If Marian wins, the two squads will play a 20-minute mini-game to determine the winner of the series.
