Sabre women's hockey shutout in season opener

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's hockey (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) dropped their season opener falling to Saint Mary's (Minn.) by a 4-0 final.

The Cardinals would net a pair of goals in the opening period, separated by only one minute, and then another pair of goals in the third period, one of which came on the power play, to defeat the Sabres in their season opener. 

Marian had their best offensive period come in the third period when they recorded eight shots.  Senior Jill Schneider led the offense with a team-high four shots and also had seven faceoff wins.

Senior Lindsey Strainis (0-1-0) made 32 saves in the defeat including a second period that saw her stop all 15 shots she faced.

The Sabre penalty kill had a strong game holding the Cardinals to one power play goal on seven opportunities.

Marian closes out the weekend taking on UW-Eau Claire tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. from Blue Line.
