ANGOLA, Ind. - Marian University women's hockey (0-5-2, 0-3-2 NCHA) held off a Trine comeback to tie the Thunder 2-2 in the series opener.
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the opening period but the Sabres were able to score the first goal of the game 4:31 into the second period. Senior Abbey Dokken opened the scoring with her first goal of the year with assists to senior Hailey Miller and junior Morgan Bolin.
Trine rallied to open the third period scoring a pair of goals, one of which was shorthanded, in the span of 1:57 to take their first lead of the game. The Thunder lead didn't last long, however, as Miller scored her third goal in as many games 29 seconds later. The goal was her third on the season with assists to senior Alexis Peterson and Bolin.
Marian would outshoot the Thunder 3-2 in overtime but were unable to convert a power play in the extra period leading to the tie.
Trine outshot Marian 34-30 for the game with Miller recording a game-high four shots. Miller also dominated in the faceoff circle winning 16 of her 20 faceoffs. In goal, senior Lindsey Strainis (0-5-2) finished with 32 saves and stopped the first 22 shots she faced.
The Sabres close out their series with Trine tomorrow, Saturday, November 17, at 1 p.m.
