RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Marian University women's soccer (5-5-0, 2-2-0 NACC) shut out Concordia Chicago 4-0 to even their conference ledger.
The two teams went back-and-forth to open the game but the Sabre offense was able to build momentum in the final five minutes of the opening half. Freshman Alicia Balken found the back of the net for the second time this season to open the scoring in the 41st minute before junior Briana Pawlowski scored her third goal on the year at the 43:58 mark. The Pawlowski goal was assisted by junior Reilly Louko and Balken.
The Sabre offense was able to use that momentum to open the second half as junior Alexis Peterson scored her second goal on the year just 4:54 in. Near the end of the 77th minute, Louko was able to add insurance with her seventh goal on the year to conclude the scoring.
Concordia Chicago outshot the Sabres 16-14 in the game with eight different Sabres recording a shot. Sophomore Alyssa Jones (2-3-0) made nine saves as she posted her second straight shutout.
Marian next travels to MSOE Wednesday, Oct. 4 for a 7 p.m. kick off against the Raiders in NACC action.
