Balken multi-goal game not enough against MSOE

Melissa McBride looks for her options.

MILWAUKEE - Marian University women's soccer (5-6-0, 2-3-0 NACC) had a tough timeout against the MSOE offense falling 5-2 in NACC action.

The first 6:36 saw a lot of action as the Raiders opened the scoring at the 2:46 mark before freshman Alicia Balken netted her third goal of the year minutes later, assist to junior Reilly Louko.  The Raiders then managed to find the back of the net in 20th and 24th minute to gain a 3-1 lead heading into the break.

The Raiders outshot the Sabres 16-3 in the half with sophomore Alyssa Jones and junior Danielle Deltgen recording five and two saves, respectively.

The Raiders scored a third unanswered goal in the 51st minute but it was Balken again who cut into the lead in the 62nd minute.  Junior Briana Pawlowski sent a ball over the defense and Balken was able to beat the keeper to the ball for her second goal of the game, fourth on the year.  Just 51 seconds later, however, the Raiders netted an equalizer to close out the scoring at 5-2.

Deltgen totaled four saves in 62:23 of action in relief of Jones (2-4-0) who took the loss.  Balken sent a team-high three shots on goal for Marian.

Marian returns home when they host Aurora Saturday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. from Smith Field.
