Sabre women's soccer offense explodes against Rockford

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's soccer (6-8-0, 2-4-0 NACC) scored five goals in each half to defeat Rockford 10-0 in non-conference action.

The Sabre scoring started early when junior Alexis Peterson scored just 45-seconds into the game with an assist to fellow junior Karissa Preston.  Peterson then put the Sabres ahead 2-0 in the eighth minute and completed her hat trick at the 11:51 mark.  The third Peterson goal was her fifth of the year and was assisted by junior Reilly Louko.

Freshman Shannon Coughlin headed in a goal in the 34th minute with Louko netting her eight goal of the year just 2:30 later.  The opening half saw the Sabres outshoot the Regents 26-1 but the lone Rockford shot was not on frame.

Just 3:17 into the second half freshman Hana Berge netted her first career goal unassisted.  Sophomores Sophia Vaca and Erika Priewe then found the back of the net just 1:27 apart with freshman Danielle Flouro assisting the Priewe goal.

A pair of first career goals then closed out the scoring as freshman Jamie Henrickson found the back of the net in the 76th minute for her first goal as a Sabre and sophomore Jayna Schmittinger scored for the first time with only 1:44 remaining.  Freshman Olivia Walton assisted Schmittinger for her first career point. 

The Sabres had a total of 32 student-athletes record minutes in the win and MU finished with a 47-3 shots advantage.  Junior Danielle Deltgen earned the win to improve to 3-4-0, while freshman Gabby Schlegel saw her first minutes in her Sabre career making a pair of saves. 

Marian hits the road traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7 p.m. kick off Wednesday, Oct. 18.
