Marian women's soccer dominates in 8-0 shutout of Rockford

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Marian University women's soccer (4-7-0, 2-3-0 NACC) scored six goals in the first half en route to an 8-0 shutout of Rockford.

The first pair of goals would come just 43 seconds apart with junior Shannon Coughlin scoring in the 14th minute, assist to freshman Ashley Welk, and freshman Megan Harbeck scoring in the 15th minute, assist to junior Emily Hill.

Welk then scored back-to-back goals in the 29th minute and 32nd minute with fellow freshman Rosa Lezotte earning assists on each play.  Junior Danielle Flouro got in on the action in the 38th minute, and fellow junior Alicia Balken scored with just three seconds remaining in the opening half to put the Sabres ahead 6-0.

The scoring continued with Coughlin finding the back of the net for the second time in the 52nd minute, while Lezotte earned her third assist.  Senior Jayna Schmittinger closed out the scoring in the 74th minute with an assist coming from fellow senior Skylar Doherty.

Marian finished with 42 shots in the victory, while the Sabre defense held Rockford to zero shots.  Sophomore Kylie Lange (4-6-0) earned the victory after playing in the first half, while freshman Brianna Levine played the second half.

Marian returns home to take on Lakeland Wednesday, Oct. 9 for a 7 p.m. NACC match-up.
