Welk (Mount Prospect, Ill.) paced the Sabre offense all season long finishing with 14 goals and three assists for a total of 31 points. In conference games, she scored 10 times putting her seventh in the NACC, while her 23 points in NACC match-ups put her in eighth amongst the league. Welk had four multi-goal games this season netting game-winners against Lakeland and Aurora. Against the Spartans, she netted the only two Sabre goals in a 2-1 victory as Marian defeated AU for the first time in program history. Welk had an especially strong end to her freshman campaign scoring nine times in the final eight games of the season. Against Rockford, she posted a career-best five-point game as she went on to score twice and added an assist in an 8-0 victory.
Jegla (Chesterfield, Mich.) anchored the Sabre defense all season long as she earns her first all-conference selection. She started in all 18 games this season and has started in all 57 games of her career so far. This season Jegla was able to earn her first-career point when she assisted a goal against Wisconsin Lutheran in an 8-2 victory. The Sabre defense only allowed 38 goals this season, 2.11 goals-against average, and posted five shutouts on the season, the ninth-most for a single season in program history.
