Marian women's tennis bounces back with wins over Alverno and WLC

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's tennis (5-3, 5-2 NACC) had a big day defeating Alverno 8-1 and Wisconsin Lutheran 6-3 with both matches being in NACC play.

The Sabres had a dominating performance in the opener against the Inferno opening with a sweep in doubles.  Emma Lewandowski and Mackenzie Meyers won the top flight 8-2, Carly Paulson and Kyrsten Bruce won No. 2 flight by an 8-0 score, and Sarah Mereness teamed up with Abigail Swisher at No. 3 only dropping one game.

Marian then only dropped one match in singles action, the top flight by a tiebreak.  The other five matches in singles action would all be 6-0, 6-0 sweeps.  Meyers earned a win at No. 2, Bruce at No. 3, Paulson at No. 4, Aubree Helstad at No. 5, and Mereness at No. 6.

In their second match of the day, the Sabres had another strong match defeating Wisconsin Lutheran opening with a pair of doubles wins.  Meyers and Lewandowski once again had a convincing No. 1 victory at 8-2 and Bruce joined Paulson for an 8-5 No. 2 win.

The top four singles flights all had strong performances to secure the victory.  Lewandowski earned the top singles win only dropping one game in each set.  Meyers completed her perfect day with a 6-4,6-1 win at No. 2, and Bruce had just as strong of a showing at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 win.  Paulson needed a tiebreak at No. 4 but was able to rally for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win.

Marian travels to Carroll for a pair of non-conference matches tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 29, taking on Carroll at 9 a.m. and UW-Stevens Point at noon.
