APPLETON, Wis. - The Marian University women's volleyball (1-1, 0-0 NACC) had a tough time finding a rhythm falling to Lawrence by set scores of 25-16, 24-26, 25-16 and 25-14.
The Sabres started strong to open the match with a 6-4 lead before Lawrence used a 6-1 run to take the lead for good. The Vikings also ended the set strong scoring 9 of the final 11 points in the set.
Marian rallied, however, and put together their best offensive set of the night in the second with 13 kills to only four errors for a .300 hitting percentage. The Sabres once again started the set strong with a 7-3 lead capped off by a service ace from freshman Jenna Moehn forcing a Viking timeout. The Vikings used the break to eventually tie the set at 15-15 but Marian used a 7-1 run to take a 21-16 advantage. Lawrence wouldn't go away quietly, however, as they eventually tied the set again at 24-24. A service error and attack error from Lawrence gave Marian a 26-24 set win and evened the sets.
From there, it was all Lawrence as the Vikings held the Marian offense in check and earned the 3-1 home win.
Freshman Cheyenne Henson led Marian with a team-high 13 kills and .360 hitting percentage. In the back row, freshman Jamie Schrauth and sophomore Jenna Skroski each had 12 digs. Moehn also had three block assists and a pair of service aces in the loss.
Marian travels to North Park Friday, Sept. 8 to take on the Vikings at 3 p.m. and Illinois Tech at 5 p.m.
