FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's volleyball (3-7, 1-1 NACC) fell in straight sets to preseason favorite Concordia Wisconsin with set scores of 25-20, 25-11, 25-17.
The Sabres hung around with the Falcons opening the match with an 11-11 tie. CUW then built a lead out to 21-15, which proved to be just enough to take the first set. The Sabres rallied from an early deficit in the second set to only trail 7-6 but the CUW offense went to work from there and scored 18 of the final 23 points in the set to take a 2-0 lead. MU continued to play strong at the beginning of sets as they only trailed CUW 18-16 following a kill from senior Amber Baker but the Falcons managed to close out the match on a 7-1 run.
Marian would have their best offensive set of the match in the third with 10 kills and a .233 attack percentage. The Sabres struggled to slow down the Falcon offense who finished the match with a .396 hitting percentage.
Junior Alexandra Meidl and freshman Jamie Schrauth each had five kills with Meidl finishing with a .235 hitting percentage. In the back row, sophomore Jenna Skroski led the way with a team-high seven digs.
Marian closes out the week when they host Maranatha Baptist tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. from Sadoff Gym.
